An Post Insurance Supports Sightsavers’ Sensory Garden at Bloom

An Post Insurance is human about insurance, and that means offering care as well as cover. That’s why we’re excited to continue our sponsorship of Sightsavers initiatives in 2022 by supporting Sightsavers' first show garden – an accessible garden - at this year’s Bord Bia Bloom festival, taking place in Dublin’s Phoenix Park from 2-6 June.

Gairdín na gCéadfaí, which means sensory garden, is designed to be an inclusive experience for people with visual impairment or sight loss and celebrates Sightsavers’ work and partners in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, and Cameroon.

The accessible garden features more than 25 species of plants and draws inspiration from West Africa’s diverse landscape and vibrant culture.

To enhance their experience, visitors will also be able to listen to audio description guides as they move through the garden.  A universally accessible pathway with a curb will guide cane users throughout the space.

Designed by Ailish Drake and Conor Hourigan of Drake Hourigan Architects in Limerick, the garden was developed with funding from An Post Insurance and Irish Aid.

Paul Grimes, Managing Director of An Post Insurance, said: “An Post Insurance is delighted to continue our annual support of Sightsavers’ initiatives by supporting ‘a garden for Sightsavers’ at Bord Bia Bloom. The garden is a truly magical, sensory wonderland rooted in enriching the experience of those living with visual impairment or sight loss. As such, it brings us back to the fantastic work being done by Sightsavers across the world and An Post Insurance is honoured to be able to support it this year.”

This summer marks the fourth year of An Post Insurance sponsoring Sightsavers. In previous years, An Post Insurance was the title sponsor of Sightsavers’ Bright for Sight initiative which brought out thousands of students and workers throughout Ireland in their finest yellow fashion. It’s just one of the many ways we support our communities, from 1999 to 2022, and beyond.
