IMID & Driver Numbers
Due to changes in Road Traffic Legislation, all insurers and insurance intermediaries, including An Post Insurance, must collect driver numbers for every driver named on motor insurance policies.
The new legislation requires us to collect driver numbers for each driver named on a motor insurance policy, on both new and existing policies. The new legislation will also require us to provide this information, along with other information about our customers and their car insurance policies, to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland, who manages the Irish Motor Insurance Database.
The Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID), comprising the Motor Third Party Liability (MTPL) Database and the National Fleet Database (NFD), provides a single point of reference for motor vehicles insured in Ireland.
To comply with this legislation, we need the driver numbers for all named drivers listed on your policy.
How to submit driver numbers:
If you are an An Post Insurance Car Insurance customer, you can provide the required driver numbers using any one of the following methods:
- Online: Upload a copy of each driver’s licence here. Simply enter your An Post Insurance Car Insurance Policy Reference Number and your date of birth. We will extract the driver numbers from the licence.
- Email: Send a photo of each driver’s licence or send their driver number directly to this email address: [email protected]
- Phone: Call us on 090 648 7390 and provide the driver numbers for each driver over the phone
Where to find the driver number:
The 9-digit driver number is located on the front of the driver’s licence, under section 4d.
Please note, once this legislation takes effect, we won’t be able to renew or set up a policy without valid driver numbers for all drivers on the policy.
