Travel Insurance Policy

Our insurance policies provide cover, care and lots of great features and benefits. Read more about your policy details here. 

You are entitled to care and assistance, such as meals and refreshments, hotel accommodation and transfers between the airport and hotel as required if your flight is cancelled and you choose to be re-routed as soon as possible. If the airline does not provide these, and you end up paying yourself, keep the receipts - you are entitled to a reimbursement of reasonable expenses.

NB. A five-star hotel may not be a reasonable expense!

Bear in mind that if your flight is cancelled and you choose a full refund, then the airline's obligations to you end there and then.

Financial compensation from the Air Carrier depends on the flight length and the reason for the cancellation. It differs to care and assistance obligations (as outlined above), and generally ranges from €250 (short-haul, less than 1,500km) to €600 (long-haul, over 3,500km).

Several scenarios can impact on compensation rights.

1) If you receive less than seven days’ notice of cancellation and choose to be re-routed as soon as possible (i.e. see option 1 under question 11 above), you will NOT be entitled to compensation - provided your new flights depart within one hour of the original departure and land within two hours of the original arrival.

2) If you receive between seven days and two weeks’ notice of cancellation, provided you choose to be re-routed and are facilitated with a new flight that departs no more than two hours before the original departure time and arrives no more than four hours after the original arrival time, you are NOT entitled to compensation.

3) If you receive notification of two weeks or more, you will NOT be entitled to compensation - provided, of course, that the airline offers full re-routing or refund options.

NB. If the air carrier can prove the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances, then you may NOT be entitled to compensation. However, you are still due a refund or re-routing.

If you wish to arrange a re-routing or refund, the quickest option is to check your carrier's website. It should include the steps to process your own refunds or bookings. In the event of a cancellation or delay, airlines are obliged to inform passengers of their options. If this happens at the airport, staff will usually be on hand to talk you through the various scenarios.

If your flights are cancelled by the airline, you must contact the airline directly regarding your options and entitlements.

Take care of your belongings while you are on holiday. If you leave your bag unattended, for example, the firm can justifiably turn down a claim for theft. In the event of a theft, loss or a crime, you must alert the police and request a written report of the incident. And we all like to have a drink on holiday, but don't get too carried away. Claims arising directly or indirectly from using alcohol or drugs (unless the drugs have been prescribed by a doctor) are not covered by this policy.

“Pre-existing condition” refers to injury, sickness, disease, illness or other medical condition that you knew about or should have known about before you bought this insurance.

Yes, you are covered if you are pregnant. However, if you are travelling between 28 and 35 weeks pregnant you must obtain written confirmation from a doctor of your fitness to travel no earlier than 5 days prior to the outbound travel date.

You will get your policy document and cover details as soon as your credit card details have been validated. We will confirm your cover on screen, and to the email address you have provided. You can also choose to get an SMS with cover details to your mobile. Provided you have your policy number, emergency number and claims number, you have all the basic information you need.

You do not need to carry your travel insurance policy document with you for cover to operate, although we do recommend that you bring it with you every time you travel. It is a particularly important document as among other things it provides you with details on what to do in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, some foreign medical providers may wish to see documentation before they will agree to treat you.

No. You may receive a reimbursement if you cancel for any reason outlined in your travel insurance policy document. Covered reasons include, but are not limited to, such unforeseen emergencies as illness, injury or death of you, or your travelling companion and/or a relative. The cover does not include cancellation due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time.

If you are buying a single trip policy, your cancellation cover begins instantly. If you are buying an annual policy, you can choose when your cover begins (up to 180 days in the future). If you have already booked a holiday, and have no other travel insurance arrangements in place, you should ensure your policy starts immediately, so you are covered for cancellation.

No, your insurance does not cover you if you're travelling on business. Our policies are for trips devoted entirely to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, where travel begins and ends in Ireland.

Yes, provided you have bought an annual policy. You must spend at least two nights in accommodation you booked before your departure. So a weekend break involving two nights in a hotel would be covered, but a day out and overnight stop wouldn't. If you have bought a single trip policy you will not be covered for holidays in the Republic of Ireland. Whichever policy you buy, some benefits are not payable for holidays in the Republic of Ireland. See the Policy Wording for full details.

Yes, our travel insurance does not cover any trip in, to or through the following countries;

Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, North Sudan and Crimea.

Europe is defined as the continent of Europe west of the Ural Mountains including its neighbouring islands and non-European countries bordering the Mediterranean (excluding Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Israel and Jordan).

The maximum length under Single Trip is 30 days.

The maximum amount of days a person insured can travel per single trip is 30 days.

An Annual Multi trip policy offers cover for up to 90 days travel in the year, but no holiday can be longer than 30 days. With an Annual Multi-Trip policy, you can also be covered for holidays in Ireland provided that you spend at least two nights in accommodation you booked before your departure.

Yes, you are covered for scuba diving under this policy but there are provisions and limitations. Please ensure you read this section of your policy document carefully. You will find the exclusions of scuba diving on page 38 of our policy wording.

You are covered to go skiing if you add Winter Sports cover as an extension to your travel insurance policy by ticking the appropriate box and paying the additional premium.

Most sections of your insurance have an excess where you have to contribute a certain amount per claim. The excess for each claim is €90.
