Home Insurance Policy

Our insurance policies provide cover, care and lots of great features and benefits. Read more about your policy details here. 

Standard Benefits

Including all home business equipment as standard up to contents sum insured, providing cover to customers when they work from home. Effective immediately and for the duration of this crisis.

If you have an emergency in your home, we will provide a repair service to secure your home and help prevent further damage from occurring. Cover for up to €260 per incident, limited to 3 claims per policy year.

This cover is underwritten by MAPFRE ASISTENCIA Compania Internacional De Seguros Y Reaseguros, S.A., trading as MAPFRE ASSISTANCE Agency Ireland.

A 12.5% Burglar Alarm Discount if you have an approved alarm. All which are fitted to EN50131 (old IS199) standards and installed by an intruder alarm company approved by the National Standards Authority of Ireland. The installer should hold a P.S.A. (Private Security Authority) licence. 

If you install and maintain a Smartzone Home Alarm System you’ll be entitled to an 18% Smartzone Home Alarm System Discount.

Protected No Claim Discount means you can make one claim up to €10,000 in a 3 year period without losing your no claims discount

If you have held a home insurance policy with no gaps in cover and are claims free for 5 years

A 25% discount for all new customers. Subject to a minimum premium. 

Covers loss or damage to frozen food up to €650

Call out charges are covered up to €1,500.

If your keys are stolen we will replace your door locks, up to a maximum of €400.

We will pay up to €1,000 to find the source of any oil or water leak causing damage.

Accidental Damage

Covers accidental damage caused by something external to the buildings, or to the contents while in your home.

Leaking or Overflowing of Water

From within any plumbing, heating or drainage system or fixed domestic appliance.

Christmas and Family Weddings

Your contents cover is increased by 10% for the month of December and for 30 days before and after the wedding of any member of your immediate family.

Jury Service Benefit

If you or your partner is called for jury service, we will give you €40 per day up to a maximum of €650. This does not affect your No Claims Discount.

Visitors Belongings

Cover for loss or damage to your visitors’ personal belongings temporarily in your home, up to €400.

Credit/Debit Car Cover

Cover for lost or stolen credit or debit cards if you become legally liable for costs up to €650 or for cash up to €400.

Frozen Food      

Cover for loss or damage up to €650

Jury Service Benefit

Public and Personal Liability        

Up to €3,000,000 cover for your legal liability for damages and costs following injury or disease to any person or loss or damage to property

HomeCall Helpline          

Provides advice and access to a network of repairers in the event of a home emergency 24 Hours a day, 365 days a year

          Glass Breakage 

          Cover for breakage of ceramic hobs or glass oven doors up to €650

          Door Lock Replacement

          If your keys are stolen, we will replace your locks, up to a maximum of €400

          Fire Brigade Charges      

          Call out charges are covered up to €1,500

          Subsidence        

          Cover for subsidence, heave or landslip of the land on which your property is built

          HomeCall Helpline          

          Provides advice and access to a network of repairers in the event of a home emergency 24 Hours a day, 365 days a year

          Optional Extra Benefits

          This optional extra cover offers you help and advice with the most common legal problems. It will pay up to €65,000 to cover the legal costs you may incur for claims under the policy. You have access to a 24 Hour Helpline which will provide help and advice on any personal legal matter from a team of legal experts. This cover is available as an optional extra with your home insurance policy at a cost of €15. You do not need to purchase this optional extra in order to purchase the policy.

          Some of the benefits you will enjoy with this cover are:

          • Legal Defence – provides legal defence for you for employment discrimination, motoring prosecutions or criminal prosecutions
          • Contract Disputes – will help and advise you if you need to pursue a claim following the purchase of goods or services that were not fit for purpose
          • Personal Injury – will help you to pursue claims for physical injury or accidental death
          • Property Protection – we will pursue claims if your home or personal possessions are damaged. It will also cover any problems arising from nuisance or trespass on your property
          • Cover available for just €15.

          Family Legal Protection is underwritten by ARAG Legal Protection Limited. 

          You have the option to increase the excess to €500, €750 or €1000 which will reduce your premium.

          This is optional additional cover available to you for valuable personal possessions inside or outside of your home. This cover is generally requested for valuable possessions such as jewellery, personal belongings, bicycles and personal money. This optional additional cover also covers these items in Europe, as well as for up to 30 days worldwide.

          Your Policy

          During the COVID-19 pandemic only, all business equipment used while working at home will be included as standard up to the contents sum insured, unless otherwise covered. The level of cover provided by the policy will be outlined in your policy schedule.

          If you have taken out the optional cover for jewellery, personal belongings, bicycles and money, we will cover loss or damage within Europe or, for up to 30 days in any period of insurance, anywhere in the world.

          Yes, if you have included these items in the Contents Sum Insured figure they are covered in your private house and outbuildings once they are securely locked and any keys removed and placed out of sight inside your house/apartment. A limit of €3,000 applies to contents in outbuildings.

          You should insure your home for the reinstatement cost as opposed to full market value. You should insure your building for a sum insured that represents the full rebuilding costs of your house, including domestic outbuildings and drives and other items.

          You should make an additional provision in setting your sum insured for costs in removing debris after a loss, Architects fees and additional costs in rebuilding to current Construction and Local Authority Regulations.

          Avoid the mistake of insuring your property for its market value. This is incorrect and may lead to the value of your claim being reduced in the event of a loss. The market value may be more or less than the full rebuilding cost of your home.

          You can choose contents cover as a percentage of your building cover. For example if your building is insured for €200,000 and you choose 30% contents cover, then you have cover up to €60,000. Your second option is insuring the total value of all your contents as a separate sum.

          Should you wish to cancel your policy, you must send written instruction, inclusive of your policy number to An Post Insurance. A cancellation fee may apply. You can simply fill in the cancellation form (found on the home documents page on our website) and return to us at our freepost address: An Post Insurance, PO Box 1, Freepost, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
