Hosting Ukrainian Refugees Customer Notice
Here are some frequently asked questions regarding your Home Insurance cover if you host Ukrainian refugees
Do I need to let you know if there are refugees sharing my home with me?
If you wish to welcome refugees from the Ukrainian crisis to share your home, our home insurance will cover you and there’s no need to do anything if you remain living there too. We’ll treat refugees as guests, and you don’t have to tell us that they’re staying with you. They’ll be covered by your policy in the same way as guests living in the home.
If I house refugees, is there anything else I need to consider?
Your home policy already includes provisions for you sharing your home with tenants or lodgers- which is how your guests will be considered. We’d encourage you to check your policy to make sure it covers your needs. These include cover relating to accidental damage, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, or malicious acts. These provisions are unchanged when individuals or families from Ukraine are lodging with you in your property.
What if I vacate my home to house refugees?
If you vacate your home for the purpose of offering refuge to those fleeing Ukraine, you do need to contact us to amend your policy. In that instance, the occupancy of your home will have changed. Your current policy requires you to advise us of that. We will arrange to have the cover amended to reflect the change in occupancy in your home. You should advise us of your new correspondence address when making this change.
What if I am making my let property or holiday home available to Ukrainian refugees?
If your policy is already noted with An Post Insurance as being let to tenants, or in use as a holiday home, noted as let to tenants, there is no need to do anything right now. Your cover will remain in place and the individuals/families from Ukraine using the property will be deemed to be the same as any other tenants or holiday home users, respectively.
